Something for the soul

There is something truly magical about buying a lottery ticket. Vast amounts of money beyond your wildest dreams only one small purchase away seems too good to be true. The chances of winning are astronomically low but there’s still a chance, right? All your dreams of going on expensive worldwide trips, buying all the luxuries of a wealthy life, paying off old debts, and of course having the satisfaction of sending a snappy goodbye email to your boss. All this with just one ticket? So much wealth can be really overwhelming but we’re here to help with just that.

A must have purchase for anyone in the category of “rich and powerful” is a set of rare Macallan whiskies. Only recently on April 2nd 2017, a set of The Macallan whiskies in limited edition Lalique decanters was sold for a whopping $993,000 at an auction by Sotheby’s Hong Kong. This record breaking sale was the most expensive lot of whiskey ever sold at auction. This legacy collection consisted of six decanters of The Macallan single malts aged 50,55,57,60,62 and 65 years, each representing one of The Macallans six pillars of quality upon which the brand is built. These characteristics define The Macallan brand and set it apart from its competitors by raising the quality of their whiskey to the highest standard. The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars collection was collaborated on by the two companies for little over a decade yet this is the first time a complete collection was ever offered for sale.

The 65 year old Macallan in Lalique is the final Macallan in Lalique decanter is one of the oldest and rarest spirits ever released by the renowned distillery. It reflects the company’s unrivalled spirit and craftsmanship. The Macallan whiskey is described as rich, viscous, and aromatic but even these terms cannot encapsulate the fine quality and artistry of the whiskey that lies at the very heart of The Macallan. The decanter was designed by Marc Larminaux, Creative director for Lalique. His design for the decanter was inspired by a single droplet of The Macallan’s fine whiskey, symbolising one of the most precious spirits in the world. The whiskey itself a true testament to the skill and exquisite craftsmanship of those involved in the making of this whiskey.

The lot which was sold for nearly a million dollars didn't only include the two decanters. Along with the collection came 6 small bottles from The Macallan’s Fine and Rare series (two each from 1937, 1938, and 1939), 6 pairs of hand-crafted Lalique whisky glasses, and autographs from The Macallan’s master blenders. This exceptional collection came with an opulent cabinet for storage – courtesy of the craftsmen at Lalique Maison.

Made from natural ebony, the true masterpiece  is the only one of its kind in the world. A big part from the auction’s proceeds went to charities dedicated to helping the disadvantaged  throughout Asia – a worthwhile humanitarian help from Sotheby’s.

In conclusion, if you ever manage to run into a small fortune or end up winning the lottery and are looking to make an extravagant purchase, look no further than any of The Macallans exquisite whiskey’s.
